A Child's Special
Book
Article by

An easy and fun way
to let your child discover and think about what he or she likes and
dreams about in life is to have your child make a book. This can be an
art project that will be fun, creative and give your child something
to show others and be proud at having achieved.
The book can be made
from coloured craft paper or felt. Decide how many topics you wish in
the book, and punch holes in the sides or top of the pages for each
topic. Thread yarn or ribbon through the holes to hold the pages
together.
Have your child
print his or her name on the cover with crayons or felt pens. Assemble
as many magazines as you can. Have your child find pictures from the
magazines, cut them out and paste into the book. A box of crayons or
felt pens can be used for pictures that the child can not find in
magazines.
The topics used
should be personal to the child rather than biographical. The final
result should be a book that only the child could have made. Anyone
can make a biography for the child, only the child can make a book
about his or her thoughts and wishes.
Suggested topics:
* What I Like
* What I Don't Like
* What I Want to be When I Grow Up
* What I'm Good at
* What I Would Like to Learn
* Where I Would Like to Go
Suggest topics to
your child and let him or her choose those that sound interesting.
This project should not be homework but exciting. It can be an ongoing
project rather than completed in an afternoon.
You might be
surprised at what you learn about your child.
