How to Make
Earrings from Buttons
Article by
KarensVariety.com
I was recently given
a "bucket of buttons" which had been saved over the years. There was a
large selection of large and small buttons with holes and shanks,
ornate and plain, metal and plastic. I decided to make earrings from
some of the prettiest buttons. I have shown a few of the earrings
above.
Everything you need
can be purchased in any craft department of craft specialty store. I
chose buttons with shanks so I needed a pair of shank cutters. These
look like small wire cutters and with a little pressure will cut
through the shank to make the back of the button flat. I used a small
piece of sandpaper to rough the back.
I purchased pierced
ear posts, however you can use posts for clip-on earrings if you
prefer. Purchase jewelry glue or use super glue. Put a small drop on
the post and a small drop on the center back of the earring and hold
together until dry. Wait a day until you use them. Be very careful not
to get glue on the post. Check the size of the drop from the glue by
testing first on a piece of paper. Use a cotton swab if you note the
drop is large.
If you like hair
accessories, you can glue buttons to a bobby pin or plain barrette.
Glue to a plain costume jewelry ring.
