Personal
Measurement Chart Article by KarensVariety.com
When choosing a
pattern, whether it is for sewing, knitting or crochet, it is always
necessary to know your measurements so that you choose the correct
size. One of the best ways of doing this is to have a chart of your
personal measurements with you so that you can compare your
measurements with those of the pattern.
Ease is the
difference between your actual body measurements and the finished
measurements of the garment. The ease allows movement of your body
within the article of clothing. Keep in mind the style of clothes you
are choosing. Loose clothes like blouses, jackets or coats will have
more ease allowed. Ease allowances can vary with fashion. If the
current fashion is loose clothing, there will be more ease in the
pattern and if tight fit is in fashion, there will be less ease in the
pattern.
Remember that your
measurements can change. Up-date your chart whenever you gain or lose
weight.
You can see a
wonderful chart presented in a vintage Simplicity book with directions
as to how to measure. This is a comprehensive set of measurements to
take. Fill in the chart and keep a copy with you when you shop. Click
the thumbnail to open the chart in a new window in PDF format, using the Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this on your computer, it can be downloaded for free from their site at
www.adobe.com.
