Ideas for Recycling Jeans
Pockets

When pants or jeans
are worn out, remove the pockets with a stitch ripper and recycle them
in a number of imaginative ways. Use large pockets from adult clothes
and smaller pockets from children's clothes.
Jeans are made from heavy fabric so the pockets are durable. Pockets
from pants can also be used but should not be used to hold heavy or
sharp items.
Use different colours or add decorations; felt appliques, beads,
sequins, embroidery or lace trim. Sew or use a glue gun to attach
decorations.
Get children involved in planning the layout and decorating the
pockets. Have them use fabric glue rather than a glue gun as glue guns
are quite hot.
* Sew or glue pockets to a fabric backing to use as a wall organizer.
Decide how many pockets you need and set the pockets on the backing
before you attach them. Use the pockets to hold pencils, paint
brushes, eye glasses, make up items, tools etc. Children can use the
pockets to hold small dolls, toys, art items, or other small
treasures.
* Use the pockets as
patches on the knees of children's pants. Decorate them and sew to the
knees.
* Sew two pockets
together leaving the top open. Add a snap or small zipper to the top
to make a coin purse.
* Add magnets and a pocket can be
set on the fridge to hold pencils or note paper.
* Pockets are
the perfect size for cell phones or TV remotes. Sew or glue the
pockets to a backing. Add a length of fabric the width or your chair
cushion, couch, or even bed mattress. You can make two backings and
place one on each side with the length of fabric hidden under the
cushions or mattress.
