Afghan Stitch

Make a foundation ch.
Row 1: Pull up lp in 2nd st from hook, pull lp up in each ch st keeping lps on hook. This is half of afghan stitch row. Complete the row by working lps off: yo hook, pull through one lp, * yo hook, pull through 2 lps on hook. Repeat from * across.
Row 2: Do not turn. Pull out lp on hook which is the first st of this row, skip 1st vertical bar, insert hook from right to left under the next vertical bar, yo and pull up a lp, pull up a lp in each remaining horizontal bar of last row keeping lps on hook. Complete row same as Row 1.

Loop Stitch

Can be used for fringe. Cut a piece of cardboard as wide and long as you want the loops to be.
1. Make a foundation ch. Hold the cardboard in back of the ch, insert hook in 2nd st from hook, wind yarn around cardboard from back to front, yo hook and through 2 lps on hook.
2 & 3. Work another lp st like this in each remaining ch.
4. When cardboard is completely filled with lps, slip all but last 2 lps off cardboard and continue working until all lps are completed.
5. To make joined lps, do not break off yarn but work ch sts the length of the last lp and work ch sts in the last lp.

Open Block

Make a foundation ch divisible by 12 plus 6 sts.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch sts, * ch 2, skip next 2 ch sts, 1 dc in each of next 4 ch sts. Repeat from * across.
Row 2: Ch 5, turn, skip 1st 3 dc, * 1 dc in next dc of row below, 2 dc in next ch 2 sp, 1 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc. Repeat from * across row ending with 1 dc in top of turning ch 3.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, * 2 dc in next ch 2 sp of row below, 1 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc. Repeat from * across row ending with 2 dc in last sp, 1 dc in 3rd st of turning ch 5.
Repeat Row 2 and 3.

Petal Stitch

Make a foundation ch.
YO hook twice, insert hook in next st, yo hook and pull up a loop (4 lps on hook), work (yo hook and through 2 lps) twice * yo hook twice, pull up a lp in same st as before (yo hook and through 2 lps) twice. Repeat from * once more, yo hook and through all 4 lps on hook, ch 1 to complete petal stitch; work as many chain stitches as desired between petal sts. The size of the petal can be varied by working more or less sts in one st of row below.

Picot

Beginning with sc, ch 3 or more and sc in the same beginning sc.  Vary the size of the picot by ch more or less than 3.

Popcorn Stitch

Make a foundation ch.
Work 5 dc in same st, drop lp from hook, insert hook in top of first st of the group, insert the hook in the dropped lp, pull dropped lp through st on hook, ch 1 tightly to complete the popcorn st. You can make the popcorn st in any size by changing the size and number of lps.

Puff Stitch

Make a foundation ch.
Work first st in 4th or 5th ch st. * yo hook, pull up a lp in st, pull up lp on hook 1/2 inch or longer (yo, pull up another lp same length as before in same st as last lp) as often as required for size of puff, keeping lps on hook, yo hook and through all lps on hook, ch 1 to complete puff st, skip 1 st. Repeat from * across remaining ch sts.

Rib Double Crochet

Make a foundation ch.
Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch st.
Row 2: 2 dc or as many dcs as desired, then work a rib dc as follows: yo hook, insert hook from right to left under next st on last row, yo hook, pull up a lp under st on hook, pull out lps on hook 1/2", yo hook and through 2 lps, yo hook and through remaining 2 lps. This completes 1 rib dc.

Shell Stitch

Make a foundation ch divisible by 6 plus 4 sts.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 more dc in same st as last dc, * skip next 2 ch sts, 1 sc in next st, skip next 2 ch sts, a group of 5 dc in next st. Repeat from * across ending with a group of 3 dc in last ch st.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in 1st st, * skip next 2 dc, a group of 5 dc in next sc, skip next 2 dc, 1 sc in next dc (centre dc of group). Repeat from * across row ending with skip 2 dc, 1 sc in top st of ch 3.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in 1st sc, * 1 sc in centre dc of next group of 5 dc, a 5 dc group in next sc. Repeat from * across ending with a group of 3 dc in last sc.
These last 2 rows form pattern stitch.

Slipper Stitch

Make a foundation ch.
Work 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining ch st. Work sc rows back and forth taking sts over back strand of lp only of each sc of row below.

Square Mesh

Make a foundation ch. divisible by 3 plus 8 sts.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 8th st from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch sts, 1 dc in next st. Repeat from * across ending with 1 dc in last ch st.
Row 2: Ch 5, turn, skip first dc and ch 2, 1 dc in next dc of row below, * ch 2, skip ch 2 of row below, 1 dc in next dc. Repeat from * across row, ending with 1 dc in 3rd st of turning ch. Repeat last row throughout.

Star Stitch

Make a foundation ch divisible by 2 plus 5 sts.
Row 1: Skip 1st ch, pull up loop (all lps are 1/2 inch) in each of next 4 ch sts, yo and pull through all 5 lps on hook, * ch 1 for eye of star st, pull up lp, pull up lp through eye of star st, then one through back of last lp of star st just made and another lp in each of next 2 ch sts, yo and through all 5 lps on hook. Repeat from * across ending with ch 1 for eye which completed last star st.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, skip 1st ch, pull up lp in each of next 2 ch sts, pull up a lp through eye of first star st of row below and another one through side lp of same star st, yo and through all 5 lps on hook, * ch 1, pull up lp on hook, pull up lp through ch 1 (eye of star st just completed), another one through back of last lp of same star st, pull up another one through eye of next star st of row below and one more lp through side lp of same star st of row below, yo and through all 5 lps on hook. Repeat from * across.

This row forms pattern st. Repeat last row.

V Stitch

Make a foundation ch divisible by 3 plus 6 sts.
Row 1: Dc in 6th ch from hook, * skip next 2 ch (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next st. Repeat from * across ending with a V st of (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in last st.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc and ch 2, * a V st of (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next dc of row below, skip 1 dc and ch 2 of row below. Repeat from * across row ending with a  V st in dc before last V st, skip last dc, 1 dc in 3rd st of turning ch.
Row 3: Ch 5, turn, 1 dc in first dc, * skip next dc and ch 2, a V st in next dc. Repeat from * across ending with a V st in last dc.
Repeat last 2 rows.
