Knit or Crochet a
Curtain
Article by

Create a unique look
for your home by knitting or crocheting window curtains. You can
easily choose from a large variety of patterns by joining insertions.
Choose a very lacy look with straight or picot edges or a more
filled-in look. Insertion patterns are available in knitting and
crochet patterns. Add an edging to the bottom and you will have an
elegant window. If you wish, you can place your curtain over a
contrasting colour curtain.
Insertion strips can be joined by vertically or horizontally. Measure
your window and double or triple the width or length depending on how
full you want your curtain. Check the gauge of your insertion pattern
to find how long or wide the first strip will be. Knit or crochet the
first strip; do not finish off but turn and repeat the pattern.
Here is a pattern
for the above window curtain.
Use a 2.5 crochet hook and No. 10 crochet thread.
Tension: 4 patterns to 3 inches
To Make: Ch 384
Row 1: 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in each ch to end.
Row 2: 4 ch, 1 tr in 3rd dc (1 ch, miss 1 dc, 1 tr in next dc) to end
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 dc in tr, (1 ch, 1 dc in 1-ch sp) to end, 1 ch, 1 dc in
3rd ch.
Row 4: (8 ch, miss next 2 dc, ss in next dc) to end.
Row 5: 6 ch, (ss in 8-ch lp, 5 ch) to end, ending ss in last 8-ch lp,
1 ch, 1 dtr in 1st of 8 ch of previous row.
Row 6: 1 ch, 1 dc in dtr, 1 dc in 1-ch sp, (1 dc in ss, 5 dc in 5-ch
sp) to end, ending 1 dc in ss, 2 dc in 6-ch sp.
These 6 rows form pattern. Continue in pattern until length required,
ending with a 2nd row.
To complete the look, add a matching edging to your window blind. Use
a stab stitch to sew the edging to the blind. Insert your needle
straight through the front with one hand and pull out at the back with
the other hand.
