You can easily knit or crochet a
headband, wrist band, choker necklace or belt with elastic thread and
insertion patterns. Edging
patterns are commonly used as trim for linens and often have matching
insertions which are rectangular strips inserted into linens. These
insertions can be very narrow or very wide. Simply by choosing one of
these insertions, you can knit or crochet the length you require for
accessories. By using elastic thread, they have flexibility and it is
easier to keep their shape.
It is suggested you test the stretch
of the elastic before making as the article you make will have to fit
over your hand, head or shoulders. An alternative is to join the two
ends with clear snaps, hooks or tie with ribbon.
There are a variety of insertion
patterns; wide or narrow, filled or lacy, easy to make or more
challenging. Some are
knit and some are
crochet.
This is an example of a head band
crocheted with elastic thread.
