Lacy Net Weaving is
similar to plastic canvas but netting is flexible so it can be used to
make clothing and accessories. This is a wonderful beginner craft for
adults and children alike.
Use a needle and yarn or thread to weave on mesh net material. Weave a
zig zag, plaid or other pattern or use cross stitch or plastic canvas
stitches such as French knots.
Fabric netting comes in a variety of different sizes with large or
small holes. The size you use will depend on the type of yarn. You can
choose from a heavy yarn such as bulky weight or worsted weight or
choose cotton thread.
The fabric netting you choose must be sturdy enough to hold up to
wear. If you make slippers, for example, your netting will need to be
very sturdy.
The types of stitches you use will determine how much of the netting
will show. If your netting is a contrast colour, you may wish it to
show through as a background.
This vintage book is an introduction to net weaving with patterns for
accessories and home decor.
