Children can use
their imagination to create finger puppets using a cardboard roll
decorated with scrap fabric and felt. The size of the puppet can be
adjusted by making a roll small enough to fit on one or two fingers,
or large enough to fit on a child's hand. Make puppets to resemble
animals, people, or characters or your child can create a puppet using
his or her imagination.
1. Cut a piece of bristol board or
similar thickness cardboard to the required length and width
adding a half inch. Roll and glue the ends. Use plain cardboard to
cover with fabric, or use coloured cardboard.
2. Cut a circle of cardboard an inch
larger than the open end of the roll. Clip edges, fold over the
open end and glue.
3. Cut a piece of fabric and glue
around the roll and covered end. If you have used coloured
cardboard, this step can be omitted.
4. Now decorate. Use felt for ears,
eyes, nose and tongue. Substitute, beads, sequins and other
decorations if you wish.
5.
Cut a piece of fabric and glue around the bottom, ruffling the top
as you glue, to represent the body.
