Shawls Stoles Capes Ponchos
Article by KarensVariety.com

There is a growing  trend toward shoulder coverings as a must have accessory. They can be worn by any women of any size or any age. They don't have to fit properly and are a wonderful accessory for any outfit. They come in a large variety of styles and fabrics. You can buy them, make your own, or give as gifts.
A Shawl is a square, rectangular, circular or triangular piece of cloth worn around the shoulders or over the head and shoulders.
A Stole is a long wide scarf worn about their shoulders by women.

Shawls and stoles are an easy to wear wrap that can be used as a clothing accessory or for warmth. They are easy to carry as you can fold them and wear them if necessary.

You can wear them around your shoulders or be creative; wear front to back, over one shoulder, hanging in the front or tied in the front or slightly to the side, wrap double around your shoulders, tie at your waist for a casual look.

They can be worn for evening wear or casual wear. You can own basic black and white or have a closet full of different types.

Shawls and stoles can be knit, crocheted, made from any type of fabric, be plain, multi coloured, embroidered, beaded, fringed or have fur trim. They can be as wide or as long as you wish. You can purchase or make your own.

Capes and Ponchos
Capes and ponchos are similar but a cape is fastened at the neck and a poncho pulls over the head. Like a coat, they are usually meant for warmth but like shawls and stoles, they can be made from any type of material or can be knit and crocheted, and hoods are optional.

A cape is a sleeveless outer garment that can be long or short which covers the back and shoulders and fastens at the neck. It can have armholes at the sides or can cover the arms.

With Armholes Without Armholes

A poncho is a blanketlike outer garment having a hole in the center for the head. It pulls over the head and can be with or without a hood.
