How to Make a
Topsy-Turvy Doll
Article by
KarensVariety.com
Topsy-Turvy dolls
have two faces so there are two different dolls in one. They are
actually made of the top half of two dolls joined together at the
waist. Each dolls wears a long dress so that when the head of one doll
is showing, the other half is covered by a long skirt. To play with
the second doll, you simply pull the skirt down to cover the first
doll. The dolls usually represent different personalities;
awake/asleep, happy/sad, or different characters; Cinderella/Princess.
You can make these
dolls using any stuffed doll pattern, whether it is a sewing, knitting
or crochet pattern. You make the top half of the doll only, from the
waist up; head, arms and top half of the torso to the waist. Then
simply join the two halves at the waist. Make or purchase two
different doll dresses, put one on each doll and join at the hem.
Decide what type of
dolls you wish and begin decorating, different hair colours and
styles, different faces using embroidery, paint or felt. Add hats,
ribbons or sequins. Use different fabric textures and colours for the
dresses. Make them in a theme or just be creative.
The doll shown below
is a full size doll crochet pattern. By making the top half only and
sewing two together, you can make a topsy-turvy doll.
