There is a chapter with black and white illustrations demonstrating the two
main stitches in raffia work; the brick stitch and the figure eight
stitch. Other stitches are variations or combinations of these two. Once the
nucleus has been built, more elaborate stitches are added; pierced work,
chain stitch spirals, patterned.
There are further chapters on dyeing raffia, weaving and plaiting, and
chapters with descriptions on making many crafts from raffia. Rather than
step-by-step patterns, the general descriptions and tips allow leeway to the
crafter to create his or her own unique piece.
