PDF Digital Reproduction
of a book published in the early 1900's, with 113 pages. The book contains
complete instructions, illustrated with photographs and diagrams, for making
different pillow laces.
Pillow lace, also called Bobbin Lace or
Point, is defined as "An intricate handmade lace made by
interlacing thread around small notched pins or bobbins stuck into a pillow".
This is not so much a pattern book as it is a
beginner's guide, teaching the history, materials, equipment and basics of
making pillow lace. There are projects for you to complete as you learn.
In addition to the pillow laces, there are instructions for
Needlepoint Laces; Youghal lace, Fongere embroidery, Broderie
Bretonne, Connemara lace, Point lace, plus a section on
Embroideries and Trimmings; Antique Richelieu, Fringes, Darned Huckabuck, Italian embroidery, Mount Mellick embroidery,
Hardanger.
