These little booklets are wonderful, small but filled with lovely patterns; winter accessories, slippers, bazaar items, afghans, baby clothes, dresses, summer tops and, of course, sweaters for every member of the family. Styles range from classics to picture graphs; pastels or bright colours.

The books themselves are small enough to carry easily wherever you go and sturdy enough to last through many knitting or crochet sessions. Whether older booklets with the name "Beehive" in the title or newer books with "Patons" in the title, these booklets all have the trademark beehive picture.

1940's Style Hat to Knit

Crocheted Poodle Slippers

Very easy 1940's style hat to knit for yourself or as a gift. Crochet a cute pair of poodle slippers. When you want a pattern, instead of waiting for the mail to be delivered, you can download instantly either single patterns or books; you might even want to try your hand at antique patterns.

It has been raining and cold here and we have had snow. Winter is coming and I have been busy getting my gardens ready for their long sleep. Now the time is here to pull out the yarn and needles and settle in.

I thought this might bring a smile; if it were only true!

A lady decided to make a lacey tablecloth. "It ought to be easy," she said. "You just take a handful of holes and sew them together."

Armenian Lace Article

I found this article in a Woman's Day magazine from 1956, with easy instructions and pictures.

"This little known lace has been made for hundreds of years by women of the Near East. It's done with just a sewing needle and thread and a single knot, or stitch, anyone can master. Patterns are produced merely by varying the arrangements of knots and loops."

Doily Ideas

Crocheted doilies are made in all sizes, large and small, and are wonderful to brighten up end tables; use as table settings (large for plates, small for glass coasters); lay them on padding to use as trivets; place them in frames with your favourite picture in the centre; set bows or other small decorations in the middle to accent your colour scheme or to go with the season; use as small candy or gift baskets (tie the four corners with ribbon or small flowers or holly and place one per guest).
