Hallowe'en Costume Article

When my boys were young, they played hockey and were Scouts. Everyone had a Hallowe'en party with costumes. The regular trick or treat costume always had to be big to cover winter coats and could be any monster my boys could think of. I rarely bought costumes, makeup and old clothes made Frankenstein, or ghouls. The requirements for school, and other parties tended to be different, boys imaginations could not run wild; mother's had to in order to find a different yet suitable costume. When I found this article, I wished I had as much imagination as the author.  Although the article is better for girls than boys, I think, with a few changes, a simple outfit could adapted to many situations.

Swedish Embroidery Article

Swedish Embroidery (also known as Swedish or Huck embroidery or weaving) is a means of decorating fabric with a broad weave. A large needle is slid under the vertical thread (called a “float”) and the yarn is drawn through to create a pattern. The trick is to make each stitch evenly taut, not too tight and not too loose so that it lies flat and does not wrinkle. The design is only seen on the front of the cloth. Once you have mastered it, you can be very creative with your designs and make much more complicated designs.

This article shows some very simple designs perfect for the beginner. The fabrics of choice are Huck fabric (Huckabuck) commonly used for towels and Monk’s cloth. Once you have mastered your stitches, you can delve further into this art and learn all the details necessary to create works of art.
