Karens Variety
Newsletter March 2008

March is one of my favourite months, it is my birthday month, it carries it the promise of spring, you can sometimes smell spring in the air. St. Patrick's Day and Easter are in the same month this year so enjoy your celebrations.

Visit the New Listings page where you will find some very lovely patterns this week, including a vintage McCall's magazine with baby crafts, baby broomstick lace, doll patterns and sweater coat.

If you are having a very long winter like we are here, you are probably dreaming of spring bazaars and craft shows. While away the long, cold evenings making bazaar and novelty items, or gifts for friends and family. See all the special patterns in the Gifts, Bazaar, Novelties Collection.

If you or a friend belong to a bridge club, this is an easy to make lunch set with table centrepiece, placemats and napkins. Each is completed in single crochet with fringe attached and embroidered bridge symbols.

Crochet this clover leaf edging to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Use on linens, purses, or edge T-shirt or blouse sleeves, hems or pockets. Make it in white, green or colour of your choice.

Womens Plus Sizes, Sewing Patterns

This is a wonderful time for plus size women to sew their own clothes. Sewing pattern companies have noticed that there are real women in the world who do not look like the models on the runway. There are two things happening which are bringing about changes.

How To Sew on Appliques

Appliques are a fun and sometimes necessary way to decorate clothing. Team logos or names are added to sports clothing, pictures are created by piecing together pieces of fabric, or geometric designs are placed on plain clothes to create a unique look.

How to Make Sewing Pattern Adjustments

When you sew your own clothes, it is often necessary to adjust the pattern to create a perfect fit. You may need to shorten or lengthen the waist, sleeves, bodice or skirt, make the back or bust narrower or wider. This is an illustrated article taken from a Singer Sewing Book, 1949, with illustrations and directions to make adjustments.
