A warm ascot scarf to knit in garter
stitch has a loop to tuck one end through so this scarf won't slide off.
Starting at tip of point cast on 2 sts.
Row 1: K in front and in back of first st (one st increased), k
next st.
Row 2: Inc 1 st in first st, k to end of row. Repeat last row until
there are 38 sts on needle. Work even in garter st (k each row) until
total length from point if 5 inches.
Loop Opening:
Row 1: * K 1, slip next st onto a stitch holder. Repeat from * across.
There are 19 sts on stitch holder and 19 sts on needle.
Row 2: P 1, * k 1, p 1. Repeat from * across.
Row 3: K 1, * p 1, k 1. Repeat from * across. Repeat last 2 rows
alternately until 23 rows have been completed. Place these sts on a spare
needle to be worked later. Pick up the sts from first stitch holder and
work in ribbing as before for 23 rows.
Next Row: * K 1 from spare needle, k 1 from sts in work. Repeat
from * across. Now work in garter st across these 38 sts for 12 1/2
inches. Work 2nd loop as before. Work in garter st as before.
To Shape Point:
Row 1: K 1, k 2 tog, k remaining sts. Repeat first row until 2 sts
remain. Bind off. Press lightly.
