Pattern Stitch:
Rows 1, 3, 5: P 3, k 3, across ending with p3.
Rows 2, 4: K 3, p 3, across ending with k 3.
Row 6: P 3, * O, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, O, p 3, repeat from * across.
These six rows make one pattern.

Jacket:
Cast on 189 sts on No. 3 needles. Work 10 patterns plus Rows 1 and 2.

Armhole: K in pattern 44 sts (right front), place on stitch holder, bind off 6 sts (armhole), k in pattern 89 sts (back), place on stitch holder, bind off 6 sts (arnhole), work 44 sts in pattern (left front).

Left Front: Leave on No. 3 needles for size 1 year or change to No. 2 needles for size 6 months. Work on 44 sts as follows: Bind off 2 sts at armhole edge at the beginning of the second and fourth rows. Work in pattern until 3 patterns are completed. (Large size only - change to No. 2 needles). Work 1 row.

Neck: At neck edge, bind off 12 sts, k in pattern across. Turn, bind off 6 sts. K in pattern until neck is 1 1/4 inches deep. Bind off. Work other front to match.

Back: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows. Work until 6 patterns are completed above armhole. (Large size - change to No. 2 needles).

Neck: K in pattern 27 sts, bind off 27 sts, k in pattern 27 sts. K 4 rows on 27 shoulder sts. Bind off. Work other shoulder to correspond. Sew back to fronts. Press carefully.

Neckband: With No. 1 needles, pick up 88 sts. K 2, p 2 in ribbing for 3/4 inches. Bind off.

Sleeves: Cast on 48 sts on No. 1 needles. K 2, p 2 in ribbing for 1 inch. Change to No. 3 needles and inc 3 sts evenly across. Work 10 complete patterns. Bind off 6 sts at the beginning of the next 8 rows. Bind off remaining sts. Make other sleeve to match. Sew underarm seams and into sweater. Make lps at front edge for buttons.

Bonnet:
Cast on 93 sts on No. 3 needles. K 3 patterns. Change to No. 1 needles and reverse pattern so that front will fold back right side out. (Finish bonnet on No. 1 needles for medium size or change to No. 3 needles for large size after 1 inch is worked on No. 1 needles). K in pattern until bonnet measures 7 1/2 inches from front edge (8 inches large size).

Back: Bind off 30 sts, k in pattern 33 sts, bind off 30 sts. Cut yarn. Work 33 sts in pattern for 8 patterns. Bind off. Sew fronts to back. Fold front back.
Follow directions below and work scalloped edge around front and across bottom.

Booties:
Cast on 45 sts on No. 1 needles. Work 5 patterns. Put first 18 sts on stitch holder, k 9 centre sts for 3 patterns putting the remaining 18 sts on another stitch holder. Cut yarn. K 18 sts from first stitch holder, pick up 12 sts along side, k 9 sts, pick up 12 sts along other side, k 18 sts from stitch holder. K in stockinette sts for 1 1/4 inches.
Bind off and sew back and bottom.
Follow directions below and work scalloped edge around top and run ribbon around ankle.

Scalloped Edge: With No. 2 crochet hook, fasten yarn with 1 sc, * ch 3, 2 dc into sc, 1 sc into edge, repeat from * around.
