Tension:
8 sts = 1 inch
10 rows = 1 inch
Knit a pullover sweater with V-neck for baby or toddler
ages 1 to 3. Easy to knit using any colour of yarn. Add an applique or
embroidery at the neck or sleeve edges.
Back:
Start at bottom of back, cast on 84 sts. K 1, P 1 for 2" for ribbing.
Change to stockinette st and work even for 5".
To shape armholes, cast off 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
K 2 tog at beginning and end of each K row 3 times.
Work even until armhole measures 4".
On next K row cast off 22 sts (for shoulder). K to end of row.
Next row cast off 22 sts (other shoulder). K across 24 centre sts.
Work in garter st on top of these 24 sts for 4 ridges to make back of
neckband.
Cast off.
Front:
Start at bottom of front, cast on 84 sts and work same as back up to
armhole.
After the last decrease for armhole start to shape neckline as follows:
K to centre of row (slip other half on a stitch-holder), turn and work the
first 4 sts in garter st, purl to end of row.
Next row K to within the 6 sts at end of row, K 2 tog, K 4 garter sts.
Work in this manner decreasing one st every 4th row at neck edge next to
garter st border until the armhole measures 4:, then cast off for
shoulder.
Pick up the sts from stitch-holder and finish other side to correspond.
Sleeves:
Start at cuff, cast on 48 sts. K 1, P 1 for 1 1/2" for ribbing at cuff.
Change to stockinette st and on first row increase one st in every 5th st
all across.
Work even until sleeve measures 7 1/2" from beginning.
Then cast off 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Then K 2 tog at beginning and end every other row until 20 sts are left on
needle.
Next row K 2 tog all across. Cast off.
Make another sleeve.
Sew sides and shoulder seams together. Sew in sleeves.
