Cover a piece of leather with lacy tatting
to create a pretty barrette for your hair. Use different colours for
leather and thread to create different looks. Give as gifts or make a
variety for bazaars or craft fairs.
With two threads, make r of (2d, p) 6 times,
cl r, draw thread through last p, (Ch 6 d, j in p) 6 times, (Ch 4, d, p, 4
d, j between joining) 6 times. * Ch 6 d, Make r of 6 d, p, 6 d, cl r, rw
Repeat from * for the length of the barrette, or (making 7 rings with 6 d
chains between) (4 rings pointing out and three rings pointing in).
Repeat at ends, making 3 rings alternately.
Join between petals of flower as shown.
Join at last p of flower, outer edge. Ch 6 d, j in p of r, (ch 9 d, j in p
of next r) 3 times, ch 6 d, j in first p of next flower, (ch 9 d, j in
next p of flower) 3 times, Ch 6 d, j in p of r, ch 9 d, j in p of next r,
ch 6 d, j in p of flower, (ch 9 d, j in next p of flower) 3 times.
Repeat from beginning. Tie and cut.
Inner Chain: Ch 8 d from p to p around.
Tie and cut. Make a hole 2 x 1 1/4 inches in leather. With needle and No.
30 cotton thread, weave from where chains join, back and forth at back to
hold medallion in place.
