Materials: |
* 20 blocks 6 1/2 inches
square of plain white or pastel colour to paint on
* 20 blocks of contrast colour to alternate with the painted blocks
* Leave 12 of these whole, cut 7 diagonally to make 14 half blocks,
cut 1 diagonally twice to make the four corner pieces
* 1 1/3 yards of 36 inch material for the back of the quilt
* Batting for the inside
* Textile paints and brushes
or
* Felt or other non fray material for appliques
* Cardboard or plastic to make templates |
Make a quilt for baby nursery in your choice of colours
featuring a baby bear wearing a sleeper. You can make the template and
paint the bear blocks or make appliques from felt or other non-fray material.
Template:
The pieces numbered 1 are the ears, sleepers, flower centres, leaves,
stems.
The pieces numbered 2 are the head, hands, feet, buttons, flowers.
Cut out template pieces.
Using a stencil, assemble the bear on a white fabric block and paint paint
or
Cut out the pieces from coloured felt or other non-fray material and sew.
Sew the blocks together diagonally,
alternating bear blocks with plain blocks.
Place the back of the quilt face down on a table (or use a quilting frame)
Over this put a layer or batting material.
Then place the teddy bears top.
Pin all around and through the centre.
Tie the quilt with yarn or crochet cotton.
Turn the back edge over to the top side around and make a border,
or edge with binding tape.
Miter corners.
Hand sew in place.
