A pretty pullover top with short sleeves to
knit for women in a pattern stitch with ribbing at waist and sleeve edges.BACK:
With No. 12 needles, cast on 100 sts.
Work in K 1, P 1 rib for 40 rows.
Change to No. 6 needles and work as follows:
Setting Rows:
Row 1: * Slip 1, P1, K4, K2 tog, (y fwd, K1) nine times, y fwd, K2
tog, tbl, K4, P1, K1, repeat from * to end.
Row 2: * Slip 1 purlwise, K1, P3, P2 tog, tbl, P19, P2 tog, P3, K1,
P1, repeat from * to end.
Now work in following pattern:
Row 1: * Slip 1, P1, K2, K2 tog,
K19, K2 tog, tbl, K2, P1, K1, repeat from * to end.
Row 2: * Slip 1 purlwise, K1, P1, P2 tog, tbl, P19, P2 tog, P1, K1,
P1, repeat from * to end.
Row 3: * Slip 1, P1, K2 tog, K3, K2 tog, (y fwd, K1) nine times, y
fwd, K2tog, tbl, K3, K2 tog, tbl, P1, K1, repeat from * to end.
Row 4: * Slip 1 purlwise, K1, P3, P2 tog, tbl, P19, P2 tog, P3, K1,
P1.
These four rows form one pattern. Repeat
them until fifteen patterns in all have been worked.
Increase for Sleeves:
Next Row (right side row): Cast on 31 sts at beginning and work row
as usual for 1st pattern row.
Next Row: Cast on 29 sts at beginning and work row as usual for 2nd
pattern row.
Continue now until 23 patterns have been completed from beginning.
Neck Shaping:
Next Row (right side row): Work two repeats of pattern as usual,
then slip 1, P1, K8, turn.
Next Row: P10, pattern to end.
Continue on this first group of stitches,
working two repeats of pattern at armhole end of needle and remaining
stitches at neck edge in stocking stitch, and cast off 1 st purlwise at
beginning of each wrong side row until 26 patterns are completed from
beginning.
27th pattern
Row 1: Work as usual.
Row 2: Cast off 1 st at beginning and turn at end of first pattern
repeat to shape shoulder.
Row 3: Work all stitches.
Row 4: As Row 2. Work all stitches in next row, then cast off
purlwise.
Return to remaining st. Put first 42 sts (centre back) on to safety pin
and work other shoulder to correspond with first, casting off stitches for
neck shaping knitwise at beginning of right side rows until 26 patterns
are done, and turning for shoulder shaping on right side rows.
Neckline:
With No. 12 needles knit up 80 sts on back, picking up and knitting 19 sts
on left side of neck, then knitting the 42 sts from safety pin, picking up
and knitting 19 sts on right side of neck.
Work in K1, P1 rib for 10 rows, then change to No. 13 needles and work six
more rows in rib. Cast off in rib.
FRONT:
Cast on and work exactly as for back.
TO FINISH:
Sleeve Finish: Sew up shoulder seams.
With No. 12 needles knit up 88 sts on sleeve edge, taking 44 sts from each
side of seam. Work in rib for 20 rows. Cast off.
Work second sleeve in the same way.
Oversew side and sleeve seams on wrong side.
Do not press garment.
