Sleeveless Print Blouse

Size: Sizes 12, 14, 16
Materials: 5 (6, 7) one-ounce skeins of Botany dress yarn in main colour
2 one-ounce skeins in each of 2 contrasting colours
Size 2 knitting needles
Size 2 crochet hook
1 1/2 yards of one-inch width grosgrain ribbon
4 buttons
hook and eye
tapestry needle

Tension: in stockinette stitch
8 sts equal one inch
10 rows equal one inch

A pretty sleeveless blouse in three sizes, with a small repeated geometric pattern knit from a chart. The blouse is fitted at the waist and has a collar, front buttons and hook and eye at the neck. The blouse is edged in single crochet and has a ribbon facing.

Back
:
With main colour, cast on 131 (139, 147) sts. Start design (carrying yarn loosely in back) according to chart. Dec 1 st at beginning and end of every 4th row 14 times. Work even on 103 (111, 119) sts for 1/2 inch. Place a marker on work (waistline). Inc 1 st at beginning and end of every 5th row 14 times. Work even on 131 (139, 147) sts until back measures 7 1/2 (8, 8 1/2) inches from marker or desired length to underarm.

Shape Armholes:
Bind off 8 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at beginning and end of every other row 8 times. Work even in pattern on 99 (107, 115) sts until armholes measure 6 1/2 (7, 7 1/2) inches from first binding.

Shape Shoulders:
Bind off 11 (12, 13) sts at beginning of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 33 (35, 37) sts.

Left Front:
With main colour, cast on 71 (75, 79) sts. Start design according to chart. Dec 1 st at side edge every 4th row 14 times. Work even on 57 (61, 65) sts for 1/2 inch. Place a marker on work (waistline). Inc 1 st at side edge every 5th row, 14 times. Work even on 71 (75, 79) sts until front measures same as back to underarm.

Shape Armhole:
Bind off 8 sts at armhole side. Dec 1 st at armhole side every other row 8 times.

Neck Opening:
Bind off 10 sts at neck edge. Work even in pattern on 45 (49, 53) sts until the armhole measures 5 (5 1/2, 6) inches from first binding.

Shape Neck:
Bind off 4 (5, 6) sts at neck edge. Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 8 times. work even on 33 (36, 39) sts until armhole measures 6 1/2 (7, 7 1/2) inches from first binding.

Shape Shoulder:
Bind off 11 (12, 13) sts at armhole side 3 times. Mark position for 4 buttons on left front.

Right Front:
Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping. Make buttonholes to correspond to markers as follows: Work 3 sts, bind off next 4 sts, work to end of row. On next row, cast on 4 sts over bound off sts of previous row.

Collar:
With main colour, cast on 91 (103, 115) sts. P one row, k 1 row, p 1 row. On next k row, inc 10 sts evenly spaced in row. P 1 row. Start pattern on next k row. Work even in pattern for 8 rows.

Shape Collar:
On next k row, work across 12 (14, 16) sts, sl remaining sts on a holder. * Work in pattern on 12 (14, 16) sts. Dec 1 st at inside edge every 4th row 2 times. Bind off remaining 10 (12, 14) sts *. ** Tie in yarn to sts on holder, work across 25 (27, 29) sts. Working in pattern on these sts, dec 1 st at beginning and end of every 4th row 2 times. Bind off remaining 21 (23, 25) sts **. Tie in yarn to sts on holder, work across 27 (31, 35) sts. Working in pattern on these sts, dec 1 st at beginning and end of every 4th row 2 times. Bind off remaining 23 (27, 31) sts. Repeat between ** once more. Tie in yarn to remaining sts on holder, repeat between * once more. With main colour, work 2 rows sc around entire collar, working 3 sc in each corner, as you turn.

Finishing:
Sew side and shoulder seams. With main colour, work 2 rows sc around entire blouse. Sew collar in place. Face front edges with grosgrain ribbon. Reinforce buttonholes. Sew on buttons. Sew on hook and eye for neck closing.
