Materials: 3 ozs worsted yarn
No. 5 crochet hook
2 yards of pink velvet ribbon
Measurements: To fit an average head
Tension: 1 pattern and 3 rows measure just over 1 inch
Abbreviations:
 ch  chain
 ss  slip stitch
 dc  double crochet
 tr  treble crochet
 l.tr  long treble
 sts  stitches
 woh  wool on hook

Begin at centre crown. Make 4 ch, join into a ring with a ss. Work 2 dc in each ch (8 dc).

Continue in rounds, marking start of each new round with a coloured thread.

1st Round: * 1 dc in next dc, 1 l.tr in same dc - to make a l.tr (wool round hook) twice, insert hook in next dc, woh and draw loop through, (woh and draw loop through 2 loops on hook) 3 times; repeat from * to end (16 sts).

2nd Round: * (1 l.tr and 1 dc) in each of next 2 sts, 1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * to end (24 sts).

3rd Round: As 2nd (36 sts).

4th Round: * (1 l.tr and 1 dc) in next st, 1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st, (1 dc and 1 l.tr) in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * ending last repeat (1 l.tr and 1 dc) in next st, 1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in last st (45 sts).

5th Round: * (1 dc and 1 l.tr) in next st, (1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st) twice; repeat from * to end (54 sts).

6th Round: * (1 dc and 1 l.tr) in next st, (1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st) twice, 1 dc in next st, (1 l.tr and 1 dc) in next st, (1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st) twice, 1 l.tr in next st; repeat from * ending (1 dc and 1 l.tr) in next st, (1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st) twice, 1 dc in next st (63 sts).

7th Round: 1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * to last st, 1 l.tr in last st.

8th Round: * 1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st; repeat from * to last st, 1 dc in last st.

9th & 10th Round: As 7th - 8th round.

11th & 12 Rounds: As 7th - 8th rounds.

13th Round: * 1 dc in next 15 sts, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 30 sts, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 15 sts, 2 dc in last st (66 dc).

14th Round: 3 ch - this forms 1st tr. * 1 ordinary tr in next dc, 1 ch, woh, insert hook horizontally under next dc and draw loop through, woh and draw through two loops, woh, insert hook horizontally under the same dc, draw loop through, (woh and draw through 2 loops) 3 times, 1 ch; repeat from * to end, join with a ss to top of 3 ch.

15th Round: 3 ch, * 1 ordinary tr in 1 tr, 1 ch, woh, insert hook horizontally under next tr and draw loop through, woh and draw through two loops, woh, insert hook horizontally under the same tr again, draw loop through, (woh and draw through 2 loops) 3 times, 1 ch; repeat from * to end, join with a ss.

16th Round: * 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next ch; repeat from * to end.

17th Round: * (1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st) 5 times, 1 dc in next st, (1 l.tr and 1 dc in next st, (1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st) 5 times, 1 l.tr in next st, (1 dc and 1 l.tr) in next st; repeat from * ending last repeat (1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st) 5 times, 1 dc in next st, (1 l.tr and 1 dc) in next st, 1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st) twice, 1 l.tr in last st.

18th Round: * (1 dc and 1 l.tr) in next st, (1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st) 5 times; repeat from * ending last repeat (1 dc and 1 l.tr) in next st, (1 dc in next st, 1 l.tr in next st) 3 times, 1 dc in last st (105 sts).

19th Round: * 1 l.tr in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * ending with 1 l.tr in last st.

20th Round: As 8th round.

21st Round: As 19th round.

22nd Round: 1 dc in each st, going through back of loop only, and increasing 3 dc in round (108 dc).

23rd Round: * 1 dc in 1 dc, going through both loops in the usual way; repeat from * to end.

24th - 26th Rounds: Plain dc.

27th Round: * 11 dc in 11 dc, miss 1 dc; repeat from * to end.

28th Round: * 10 dc in 10 dc, miss 1 dc; repeat from * to end.

Fasten off.

Press dc part of brim very lightly. Turn under to wrong side and slip-hem lightly in position with matching thread. Cut ribbon in half and slot 2 rows around base of crown, joining ends by making mock bows at back.
