Sew a bonnet for a young girl to keep her warm in winter or shaded in
summer. Use warm non ravelling material such as fleece or cool summer
fabric in plain colour or a pattern. This is a very easy pattern to sew. The measurements are given for a bonnet approximately
2 years old. To change the size, measure the child's head from the tip of one ear to the
other.
Cut one piece of fabric to 14 by 14 inches and another to 7 by 20
inches.
Fold the 14 x 14 inch piece in half and sew on the wrong side marked
A. When turned inside out, this will be the hat.
Fold the 7 x 30 inch piece of fabric in half
lengthwise. Sew it on the wrong side and turn it inside out. Press to
flatten. This will be the tie scarf.
Sew the bottom part of the hat to the scarf part,
leaving 1 1/2 inches unsewn at the ends. Fold back back the outer 1
1/2 inch section of fabric around the hood and press. Turn under the
scarf ends and sew.
Add lace to the hood edge if you wish.
