If you or a friend belong to a bridge club, this is an easy
to make lunch set with table centrepiece, placemats and napkins. Each is
completed in single crochet with fringe attached and embroidered bridge
symbols. The placemats and centrepiece are white with fringe in black, red
or a combination of both colours. The symbols are black for clubs and
spades, and red for hearts and diamonds.
Place Mat:
Ch 89, sc in second ch from hook, and sc in
each st across (88 sts), ch 1, turn.
Continue working back and forth in each sc until piece measures 10 1/2
inches.
Cut and fasten yarn.
Centrepiece:
Ch 55, sc in second ch from hook, and 1 sc
in each st across (54 sts), ch 1, turn.
Continue working back and forth in sc until piece measures 10 1/2 inches.
Cut and fasten off.
Embroider one symbol on each side as shown.
Add fringe as on place mat.
Napkin Cuff:
Ch 21, sc in second ch from hook, and 1 sc
in each ch across (20 sts), ch 1, turn.
Continue working back and forth in sc for 14 rows.
Cut and fasten off.
Finishing:
Following chart, embroider one symbol on
centre of each napkin cuff.
Sew cuff in place as shown.
Make fringe around entire place mat, and on open ends of napkin cuff.
To Make Knot Fringe:
Cut 3 inch strands of red and black yarn.
Double each strand to form a loop. Insert hook into a stitch along edge
and draw loop through. Then draw loose ends of strands through this loop;
pull tight. Continue to knot a fringe into every stitch, alternating black
and red. After all fringe has been made around, trim evenly.
