End all rows ch 1, turn, unless otherwise specified.

Rows 3 - 7: Repeat row 2.

Row 8 - 10: Work even in pat st without inc.

Row 11: as row 2 for 16 pats, to inc 1 pat, work 2 pats in next sp (as in beginning of row), 7 pats, 2 pats in next sp, work in pat st to end of row.

Row 12: As row 2.

Rows 13 - 14: Work even.

Row 15: As row 11 but work 17 pats, 2 pats in next sp, 9 pats, 2 pats in next sp, pat st to end of row.

Row 16: As row 2.

Rows 17 - 21: Work even.

Row 22: To form back of cap, work in pat st to within 19 pats from end of row, to dec 1 pat, * draw up loop in each of next 2 sps, yarn over and through all loops on hook, turn, *

Row 24: Work in pat st across previous row (23) (11 pats). Work last pat in post of last sc of row before previous row (22), 1 sc in next sp of last row (21) of hat front, turn.

Row 25: As row 24.

Row 26: Pat st across previous row but dec 1 pat at end of row as follows, * pull up loop in post of last sc of row before previous row (24), pull up loop in next sp on last row of hat front (21, yarn over and through all loops on hook, turn.

Row 27: As row 26.

Rows 28 - 35: Repeat rows 24, 25, 26, 27, twice.

Rows 36 - 41: As row 26.

Row 42: As row 26 but dec 1 pat in centre of row (as from * to * in row 22).

Rows 43 - 57: Repeat rows 39, 40, 41, 42.

Row 58: 1 sc in each sp across cap back, 1 sc in each row along front side edge, 1 sc in every other ch across front (work loosely), 1 sc in each row on other front side edge.

Row 59: 1 sc in each sc across back, for popcorn (pc) 5 dc in next sc, remove hook from loop, insert in loop of first dc and in loop of 5th dc and join them with sl st, 1 sc in next sc, repeat from * around entire front.

Row 60: Ch 3, * skip 1 sc, 1 dc in next sc, ch 1, repeat from * across back of cap, 1 pc in last st of back, * 1 sc in sl st of next pc, 1 pc in next sc, repeat from * around front, to form back ties, ch 34, turn, work back in sc, join to back.
Break off.

Join yarn on other side of back and work corresponding tie. Weave through filets and tie in back to fit head. Trim as desired.
