Dishcloths are easy to make and can be for
everyday use or to wrap small gifts. Two patterns are given; one to
crochet and one to knit.
CROCHET DISHCLOTH:
Starting at lower edge, make a chain 16 inches long.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * draw loop on hook up to measure
3/8 inch, thread over and draw through loop on hook, insert hook between
the 3/8-inch loop and the single strand behind it and draw a loop through
(2 loops on hook); thread over and draw through all loops on hook (knot
st made). Skip next 3 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across until
row measures 14 inches. Ch 1, turn. Cut off remaining chain.
Row 2: Sc in first sc, * make a knot st, sc in next sc. Repeat from *
across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until total length is 14 inches.
Next Row: Sc in first sc, * ch 3, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across.
Break off and fasten. Press lightly.
KNIT DISHCLOTH:
Starting at one corner, cast on 2 sts.
Row 1: K1, YO, K1.
Row 2: K1, YO, K to end of row. Repeat Row 2 until one side edge
measures 13 inches, ending with an even number of stitches.
Next Row: K2 tog, YO, K2 tog, K to end of row. Repeat last row
until 3 sts remain.
Next Row: K2 tog, K1. Bind off. Press lightly.
