A fine lacey edging for a linen handkerchief
to knit with some crochet. Wear with a dress or suit or give as a gift; a
perfect accessory for a bride.
Work a row of sc around hemstitched edge of
handkerchief. To keep work flat, work 2 sc in hemstitch holes when
necessary. At the corners work 4 sc in corner hold.
Row 1: Pick up 1 st in back of each sc.
Row 2: Yo, k each st. Repeat across each side. Increase or decrease
sts to have a multiple of 10 sts between yo's. Be sure there are the same
number of sts along each side.
Row 3: K 1, p 1 in yo, yo, * (sl 1, k 1, psso, yo) twice, (k 1, yo)
twice, (k 2 tog, yo) twice. Repeat from * across side. All instructions
are given for one side and should be repeated from beginning for all
sides.
Row 4 and all remaining even rows: K each st.
Row 5: (K 1, yo) 3 times, * (sl 1, k 1, psso, yo) twice, sl 1, k 2
tog, psso, yo, (k 2 tog, yo) twice, k 1, yo. Repeat from * to corner.
Row 7: Yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo, k
3, * (yo, sl 1, k 1, psso) twice, k 1, (k 2 tog, yo) twice, yo, k 3.
Repeat from * to corner.
Row 9: K 3, yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo, k 1, yo, * sl, k 1, psso,
yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo, k 2 tog, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 1, k 2 tog,
yo. Repeat from * across to last 4 sts, then k 1, yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso,
yo.
Row 11: (yo, k 3) twice, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, * yo, sl 1, k 1, psso,
k 1, k 2 tog, yo, k 1, yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo, k 1, yo.
Repeat from * to last 5 sts, then k 2
tog, yo, k 3.
Row 13: Sl 1, k 1, psso, k 1, k 2 tog, yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo,
k 3, * yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo, k 3, yo, k 1, yo, k 3, yo. Repeat from
* across to last 6 sts, then k 3, yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo.
Row 15: * yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso,
yo, k 3. Repeat from * around entire handkerchief.
Row 17: K each st.
Row 18: * Pick up and sc 3 sts tog, ch 3, sl st at base of ch 3 to
form a picot, ch 5. Repeat from * around, join last ch 5 at base of first
picot with a sl st. Fasten off.
