Materials: 4 ozs 3-ply baby yarn
Size G crochet hook
Abbreviations:
 ch  chain

Tension: 4 sc - 1 inch
5 rows sc = 1 inch
7 rows of knot st = 2 inches

A little girl will look very cute wearing a dressy heart apron, a perfect accessory for her Valentine's Day wardrobe. Wear it over a dress or pants. This cute apron has a skirt with heart bib, shoulder straps and belt. It is crocheted with lacey knot stitch.

Single Knot Stitch (SKS):
Draw up a long lp (about 1/4"), yo and draw yarn through long lp, insert hook between long lp and single strand, yo and draw yarn through, yo and draw yarn through 2 lps on hook.
Double Knot Stitch (DKS):
Draw up a long lp, yo and draw yarn through long lp, insert hook between long lp and single strand, yo and draw yarn through, yo and draw through 2 lps on hook.

Skirt: Ch 80.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (79 sc).
Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: Sc in first sc. * Work a DKS, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across row. Make 1 DKS and 1 SKS to turn.
Row 6: * Sc over 2 top strands of first lp of DKS of previous row (to right of knot), sc over 2 top strands of 2nd lp of DKS (to left of same knot), make 1 DKS. Repeat from * across, ending with a sc on each side of last DKS. Make 1 DKS and 1 SKS to turn.
Rows 7 to 27: Repeat Row 6, omitting DKS and SKS to turn on Row 27. Break off and fasten. Sew back seam.
With right side of work facing and working along opposite side of starting ch, sc in each sc around. Sl st in first sc of round to join. Break off and fasten.

Heart: Ch 11.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook. * Work a DKS, sk next 2 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * twice. Make 1 DKS to turn.
Row 2: * Sc over top 2 strands of first lp of DKS of previous row, sc over top 2 strands of 2nd lp of DKS, work a DKS. Repeat from * once. Sc over top 2 strands of first lp of DKS of previous row, sc over top 2 strands of 2nd lp of DKS. Make 1 DKS to turn.
Row 3: * Sc over top 2 strands of first lp of DKS of previous row, sc over top 2 strands of 2nd lp of DKS, work a DKS. Repeat from * once. Sc over top 2 strands of first lp only of DKS. Make 1 DKS to turn.
Row 4: * Sc over top 2 strands of first lp of DKS of previous row, sc over top 2 strands of 2nd lp of DKS, work a DKS. Repeat from * once. Sc over top 2 strands of first lp only of DKS. Make 1 DKS and 1 SKS to turn.
Rows 5 to 8: Repeat Row 4, omitting turning sts on Row 8.
Break off and fasten. Join yarn in any st along outside of square. Sc around outside edge of square, making 10 sc along each side, and ch 1 at each corner. Break off and fasten.

Left Top: Join yarn in first sc of any side.
Row 1: Sc in same sc. * Work a DKS, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * twice. Make 1 DKS to turn.
Row 2: Repeat Row 2 of Heart.
Row 3: Repeat Row 2 of Heart, making only 1 SKS to turn.
Row 4: * Sc over 2 top strands of first lp of DKS of previous row, sc over 2 top strands of 2nd lp of DKS. Work a DKS. Repeat from * once. Sc over 2 top strands of first lp of DKS of previous row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Sc over 2 top strands of first lp of DKS of previous row, sc over 2 top strands of 2nd lp of DKS. Work a DKS, sc over 2 top strands of first lp of DKS of previous row, sc over 2 top strands of 2nd lp of DKS. Sk next sc. Sc in next sc. Break off and fasten.

Right Top:
Turn heart with top piece worked, facing the right-hand side.
Working along the edge of the row now on top, join yarn in first sc. Work Rows 1 to 5 same as for Left Top.

Border:
Row 1: Join yarn in ch-1 sp between right and left tops of heart. Ch 1, work 18 sc evenly around curve of Right Top. (Since right side of work is facing, the Right Top will be on the left hand side). Work 10 sc down first straight edge, work (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in ch-1 sp at point of heart, work 10 sc up side of next straight edge, work 18 sc evenly around curve of left top. Sl st in ch-1 sp where yarn was jointed. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times. Sc in next 12 sc, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in next 12 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 9 times. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times, sc in next 14 sc, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in next 14 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) 9 times. Ch 3, turn.
Row 4: Sk 1 sc. * Sc in next sc, ch 3, sk 1 sc. Repeat from * around, making (1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc) in the ch-2 sp. Sl st in ch-3 lp at beginning of row to join.

Straps (Make 2):
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in remaining 4 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until strap is about 16 inches long, omitting turning ch the last row. Sc around strap, making 1 sc in each st along sides and ch-1 at each corner.

Belt (Make 2): Ch 4.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in remaining 2 ch. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until belt is about 21 inches long, omitting turning ch the last row. Sc around belt, making 1 sc in each st along sides and ch-1 at each corner.

Sew belts to sides of skirt with top edge of belt even with top edge of skirt. Sew straps to front and back of skirt in place to go over shoulder, with inside edge of strap about 2 inches from centre. Sew point of heart to centre front of skirt, about 1/2 inch from top edge. Stitch heart to the straps where they overlap, making sure heart lays flat.
