Free Crochet Pattern

Materials: No. 20 Crochet thread
No. 10 Crochet hook
Abbreviations:
 ch  chain
 st  stitch
 rnd  round
 sc  single crochet
 dc  double crochet
 tr  treble
 sl st  slip stitch
 sp  space
 p  picot
   

Ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 24 dc in ring, end with sl st in top of ch 3.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, repeat from * around, end with dc in same sp as ch 3, sl st in top of ch 3. Continue through 9 rnds, increasing enough to keep work flat.

Rnd 10: Ch 6, sk 2 dc, in next dc, * ch 3, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, repeat from * around, end with sl st in third st of ch 6.

Rnd 11: Sl into next sp, ch 6 and make another rnd of sps.

Rnd 12 and 13: Same as Rnd 11 except ch 4 between dcs.

Rnd 14: Sl st into next sp, ch 9, tr in next sp, * ch 5, tr in next sp, repeat from * around, end with sl st in 4th st of ch 9.

Rnd 15: Sl st into next sp, ch 4, 4 tr in same sp, * 5 tr in next sp, repeat from * around, end with sl st in top of ch 4.

Rnd 16: Ch 4, tr in each of next 14 tr, * ch 4, sk 2 tr, sc in next tr, ch 4, sk 2 tr, tr in each of next 15 tr, repeat from * around, end with sl st in top of ch 4.

Rnd 17: Ch 4, tr in next tr for a decrease, (to decrease - hold last lp of st on hook and pull last lp of tr through both lps), tr in each of next 9 tr, decrease in next 2 tr, *ch 6, sc in sc, ch 6, decrease in 2 tr, tr in each of next 9 tr, decrease in next 2 tr, repeat from * around, end with sl st in top of first decrease.

Rnd 18: Ch 4, tr in next tr for a decrease, tr in each of next 5 tr, decrease in next 2 tr, * ch 10, sc in sc, ch 10, decrease in 2 tr, tr in each of next 5 tr, decrease in 2 tr, repeat from * around, end with sl st in top of first decrease.

Rnd 19: Ch 6, make a tr tr cluster over next 4 tr, * ch 14, sc in sc, ch 14, make a tr tr cluster over 5 tr, repeat around from *, end with sl st in top of first cluster, fasten and cut thread.

Rnd 20: Join colored thread at tip of cluster, * ch 3, (dc, 4 tr, dc) in same place, ch 3, sl st in same place, ch 16, sc in sc, ch 16, repeat from * around, sl st up side to center of cluster.

Rnd 21: Ch 3, dc and 2 tr in same place, make a ch-4 p, (2 tr, dc, ch 3) in same place, sl st in same place, * ch 20, sc in sc, sl st in tip of cluster, ch 3, dc and 2 tr in same place, ch-4 p, 2 tr and a dc in same place, ch-3, sl st in same place, repeat from * around, sl st in bottom of first group, fasten and cut thread.

Go back to Rnd 10 and join colored thread in the top of a dc, * 4 tr in next tr, p, 4 tr in same place as last 4 tr, sc in next dc, repeat from * around, end with a sl st in first dc at beginning.

You are now ready to begin the upright section. Join main colored thread in a dc of rnd 9, ch 3, dc in each dc around, end with a sl st in top of first ch 3.

Make 6 more rnds like the last rnd. Make another rnd of dcs and decrease in every 4th dc. Fasten and cut thread.

TOP:
Ch 6, join with sl st to form a circle.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 19 dc in circle, end with a sl st in top of ch 3.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, repeat from * around, end with sl st in top of ch 3. Continue through 9 rnds, increasing enough to keep piece flat.

Rnd 10: Ch 7, sk 1 dc, tr in next dc, ch 3, and repeat sps around, end with a sl st in third st of ch 6. Sl st into next sp and make two more rnds.

Join colored thread to any dc in Rnd 11 and work as for color portion of Rnd 10 of doily.

Join colored thread to any dc of Rnd 12 and work a shell-picot edge of * 4 tr, p, 4 tr in same dc, sc in next; repeat from * around.

KNOB:
Ch 6, join with sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 4, 24 tr in ring, sl st in top of ch 4.

Rnd 2 and 3: Ch 3, dc in each tr around, end with sl st in top of ch 3.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, decreasing in every other dc, end with sl st in top of first dc.

Stuff with cotton.

Rnd 5: Decrease in each of last 3 decreases and pull together, sl st, fasten thread and cut, sew knob to center of lid.

Starch doily, stretch points and pin, place a round dish in center to hold in place, shape shells so they will stand up, starch and pin top out flat with top row of shells standing up.
