A very pretty motif to crochet for use as a
tablecloth, bedspread or runner.
Ch 10, sl st in first st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 16 sc in ring, join
with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 5, sc
in next sc) 16 times, join last ch 5 with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 5 (for a dc and ch 2), dc
in next sc, (ch 2, dc in next sc), repeated around, ch 2 after last dc, sl
st in third st of beginning ch 5.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same, * ch 5, 2 sc
in each of next 2 sps, ch 5, sc in top of next dc; repeat from * around,
ending with 2 sc in last sp, ch 5, sl st in first sc.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 15,
sc in sc between 2 lps) repeated around, join last ch 15 with sl st in
first sc.
Rnd 6: (Sc in each of first 7 sts of
lp, 3 sc in next st, sc in each of last 7 sts) 8 times.
Rnd 7, 8 and 9: Working in back lp of
sts only, * sk the first sc of lp, sc in each of next 7 sc, 3 sc in next
sc, sc in each of next 7 sc, sk the last sc; repeat from * around.
Rnd 10: Still working in back lp of
sts, * sk the first sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, (ch 5, sc in each of next
2 sc) 3 times, ch 5, sc in same place as last sc, sc in next sc, (ch 5, sc
in each of next 2 sc) 3 times, sk the last sc; repeat from * around, join
with sl st to first sc, cut and fasten thread.
Rnd 11: Join in center ch 5 sp on any
point (keeping right side up), ch 7 (counts as a dtr and ch 2), work 3 dtr
with ch 2 between in same ch 5 sp, * ch 5, thread over 4 times, sk 1 ch-5
sp, draw up thread in next sp, (work off 2 lps) 4 times, keeping last 2
lps on hook, thread over, sk 2 sps, draw up thread in next sp, thread over
and work off 2 lps, thread over and draw through all 3 lps on hook, ch 5,
sk 1 sp, sc in next sp, ch 5, thread over, sk 1 sp, draw up thread in next
sp, work off 2 lps, keeping 2 lps on hook, thread over 4 times, sk 2 sps,
draw up thread in next sp (work off 2 lps) 4 times, thread over and pull
through all 3 lps on hook, ch 5, sk 1 sp, 7 dtr with ch 2 between in next
sp; repeat from * around, end with (dtr, ch 2) 3 times in same sp as first
dtr, join with sl st in fifth ch of ch 7 first made.
Rnd 12: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st,
working in back lp of st only, * sc in each st across side of square to
center dtr of next corner group, 3 sc in this dtr, and repeat from *
around (41 sc on each side of square between the 3-sc corner groups).
Rnds 13 and 14: Repeat Rnd 12 having
43, then 45 sc between 3-sc corner groups.
Rnd 15: This round is made of X sts -
each being worked over 4 sts. To begin, sl st to centre sc of 3-sc group
in corner, ch 15 (counts as a tr and ch 7), thread over twice, draw up
thread in fourth ch made, keeping the 4 lps on hook, thread over twice,
draw up a lp in same centre sc, thread over and work off 2 lps at a time 6
times, ** ch 1, thread over 4 times, draw up lp in same centre sc, thread
over and work off 2 lps twice, keep last 4 lps on hook, thread over twice,
sk 2 sc, draw up a lp in next sc, thread over and work off 2 lps 6 times,
ch 2. To complete this first X st from corner, tr back around 2 threads at
centre of st, * ch 2, sk one sc, thread over 4 times, draw up lp in next
sc, thread over and work off 2 lps twice, keep last 4 lps on hook, thread
over twice, sk 2 sc, draw up lp in next sc, thread over and work off 2 lps
6 times, ch 2, tr back in centre of st - you have now completed the second
X st; repeat from * along side to centre of next corner sts (there will be
10 X sts).
Ch 1, work corner st as follows: thread over
4 times, insert hook back in same sc with last part of X st, thread over
and work off 2 lps twice, keep last 4 lps on hook, thread over twice, pull
up lp in same corner st, thread over and work off 2 lps 6 times, ch 7, tr
back in centre of st; repeat from ** around, join in fourth ch st from
centre of corner st.
Rnds 16 and 17: Ch 1, sc in back lp
of each st around with 3 sc in each corner st, cut and fasten thread.
