Each square measures 6 inches

Materials:

Two colours of 2-ply yarn
Crochet hook size 5 or G
Tapestry needle

Tension:

5 sc = 1 inch
5 rows = 1 inch

Crochet squares made of two triangles in two different colours. Use a set of squares each with two colours or several squares of two different colours. Arrange the completed squares to form a patchwork design. Use the designs below or create your own design.

Use the squares and half squares to make afghans, bedspreads, runners, or clothing; vests, tops, skirts.

SQUARES PATTERN:

First Half of Square:
With Colour 1, leaving a one foot end for sewing, ch 43 to measure 9 inches.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (42 sc)
The half square should measure 8 1/2 inches wide.
Ch 1 loosely, turn.
Row 2: Skip the first st, sc in each sc across to last 2 sts, skip 1 st, sc in last sc (40 sc)
Ch 1 loosely, turn.
Rows 3 to 21: Repeat Row 2 (2 sc remain)
Ch 1, turn.
Row 22: Skip first sc, sc in last sc. End off; leave end for sewing.

Second Half of Square:
Row 1: (right side) With Colour 2, leaving a one foot end for sewing, make a loop on the hook.
Working on the opposite side of the starting chain and beginning at same end as hanging end, sc in each of 42 ch.
Work same as First Half.

To Make Up:
Once all the squares are made, steam them if necessary to the identical size.
Arrange the squares in the desired pattern.
Sew the squares together on the wrong side with the hanging ends.
Weave ends on the wrong side for one or two inches and cut close to work.
