Rose Motif
Free Crochet Pattern

Materials: Tatting or sewing thread and a number 12 or 13 steel crochet hook for a very small design,
Or use a larger hook and heavier thread for a larger design.
Use any color you desire, white for outer portion, green for leaves and pink, red or yellow for the flower.
Abbreviations:
 ch  chain
 st  stitch
 sc  single crochet
 lp  loop
 dc  double crochet
 hdc  half double crochet
 sk  skip
 rnd  round
 p  picot
 tr  treble

Make this lovely rose motif to decorate handkerchiefs, pockets, purses, linens. Adjust the thread and needle size to make a large or very small motif. Choose your colours.

Flower:

Begin at centre of flower, with yellow or green, ch 8, sl st in first ch to form a ring, ch 5, (dc in ring, ch 2) 7 times, join last ch 2 to third ch of ch 5 first made (8 sps in all).

Rnd 2: With flower color, (sc, 5 dc, sc) over each ch 2 lp around - first row of petals formed.

Rnd 3: Sc between 2 petals, ch 3, sc between next 2 petals. Continue around, making 8 lps at the back, join in first sc made.

Rnd 4: (Sc, 7 dc, sc) over each ch 3 lp around, join.

Rnd 5: Repeat Rnd 3, but ch 4 instead of ch 3.

Rnd 6: (Sc, hdc, 9 dc, hdc, sc) over each ch 4. Fasten off.

Leaves:

In green, sc between 2 petals, * ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in each of the remaining 3 chs, sc in same place as first sc, repeat from * twice for two more leaves.

You now have a group of 3 leaves in between 2 petals. Fasten off.

(Sk one dip between petals, work a group of 3 leaves in next dip) 3 times.

Outer:

Join white in tip of outer leaf of a 3 leaf group, * ch 3, shell of (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in tip of centre leaf, ch 3, sc in tip of third leaf, ch 5, 2 tr in dip between next two petals, ch 5, sc in first leaf of next group, repeat from * around and join.

Ch 4 (for a dc and ch 1), sk 1 ch, dc in next for sp, ch 1, dc in first dc of shell, ch 1, shell of (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in corner shell; ch 1, dc in second dc, ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch 1, dc in tip of next leaf, (ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in next) across to next leaf.

Continue around making a row of sps on each side and shell in each corner shell. Fasten off.
