This is an easy shawl to crochet for baby
in a pretty lacy design made with shell stitches and a scalloped edge.
Choose a bright or pastel colour or use variegated yarn. Make the shawl in
one colour and the border in a contrasting colour. Give this as a gift to
a special baby.
To begin, ch 26.
Row 1: 1 dc in 5th ch from hook, ch 1, * miss 2 ch, 1 dc in next ch,
ch 1, miss 2 ch (1 dc, ch 1) 3 times in next ch.
Repeat from * to end of row, working (1 dc, ch 1) twice in last ch instead
of 3 times, ch 4, turn.
Row 2: * (1 dc, ch 1) 3 times in single dc of previous row, 1 dc in
centre dc of 3 dc group, ch 1.
Repeat from * to end of row, working 1 dc in 3rd ch of turning ch of
previous row, ch 4, turn.
Row 3: (1 dc, ch 1) once in last
dc of previous row, * 1 dc in centre dc of 3 dc group, ch 1 (1 dc, ch 1) 3
times in next dc.
Repeat from * to end of row, working (1 dc, ch 1) twice in 3rd ch of
turning ch of previous row, ch 4, turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until work measures
25 inches ending with 3rd row.
Border: Work 1 row sc around entire shawl. Work 20 scallops along
each side of shawl as follows:
Round 1: * (ch 1, 1 tr) 7 times in a ch 5/8 inch along edge, ch 1,
1 sc in a ch 5/8 inch along edge.
Repeat from * around shawl.
Round 2: ch 1, 1 sc in next 2 spaces, * (ch 6, 1 sc in next space)
5 times, 1 sc in next 3 spaces.
Repeat from * around working 1 sc in last space.
Fasten off.
