Make this cute apple shaped string holder to
hang in your kitchen. Make it larger or longer and use it as a yarn
holder. Simple to knit in garter stitch; make as a gift or as bazaar item.
Apple:
With red
thread, cast on 32 sts.
K in garter st (k each row) for 74 rows. Bind off.
Sew narrow ends together.
Gather one long edge up tight for top of
apple.
Run a length of string or elastic through lower edge for a draw string.
Leaves:
(Make 2 leaves)
With green thread, ch 4, sc in second st
from hook, sc in each of next 2 sts of ch.
Ch 1 to turn all rows.
Rows 2 and 3:
Sc in each sc.
Row 4:
2 sc in first sc, sc in sc, 2 sc in last sc.
Row 5:
Sc in each sc across.
Repeat last 2 rows 4 times or until there
are 13 sc in last row.
Row 14:
Dec at beginning and end of row.
Row 15:
Work even.
Repeat last 2 rows 4 times, (3 sc in last
row).
Row 24:
Insert hook in each of the 3 scs, pulling up a lp in each and hold on
hook, thread over and pull through all lps at once. Fasten.
Work a row of sc around entire leaf.
Assemble:
Cover bone ring
with single crochet, using either red or green.
Sew ring in place at centre top of apple.
Sew one leaf each side of ring.
Place a ball of string inside the knitted
portion, leaving a length hanging below lower part of string holder. Pull
draw string at bottom and tie. Tuck ends up inside cover and hang string
holder by ring.
