Knit a tea cozy for your kitchen or give as
a gift. The cosy is knit in stripes of two colours with frill top. Choose
dark and light neutral colours or choose colours to complement your
kitchen decor or tea set.
Begin at lower edge, cast on 44 sts with MC
and work 5 rows in single rib (k 1, p 1), working into the back of the sts
on the first row to give a neat edge.
Join in CC and work in pattern as follows:
Row 1: * K 2 MC, k 2 CC. Repeat from * to end, weaving in the yarn
at the back of the work.
Row 2: * K 2 CC, CC yf, p 2 MC. Repeat from * until 4 remain, k 2
CC, CC yf, p 1 MC, k 1 MC.
Repeat these 2 rows 17 times more.
Next Row: * K 2 MC tog, k 2 CC tog. Repeat from * to end (22 sts)
Break both yarns, leaving a short end of MC
yarn and thread through a darning needle. Slip this through all the sts,
draw up closely and secure with a back st on the wrong side.
Work another piece in the same way.
The Frill:
Cast on 40 sts with MC
Row 1: Inc in every st (80 sts)
Work 7 rows in garter st (plain knitting every row). Break off MC.
Join in CC and k 1 row. Cast off purlwise.
To Make Up:
Join the two pieces of the cosy together by sewing up from the lower edge
of each side for about 2 inches and down from the top for about 3 inches
on one side and about 2 inches on the other side, which leaves openings
for the spout and handle. Sew the frill to the top of the cozy, gathering
it up to fit at the same time.
