Infant's Thumbless Mittens

Materials: 1 oz MC baby yarn
1/2 oz CC baby yarn
Size 5 crochet hook
12 inches of 1/4 inch wide satin ribbon
Abbreviations:
 ch  chain
 sc  single crochet
 sts  stitches
 sk  skip
 lp  loop
 MC  main colour
 CC  contrast colour

With MC ch 26, turn.

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch to end, 3 sc in end ch, sc in each ch on other side of foundation ch, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each of first 8 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts, sc in each of next 13 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 13 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts, sc in next 8 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 3: With CC, sc in each sc and ch for 23 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in each remaining st, ch 1, turn.

Row 4: With MC, work into back lp of CC only, sc in each of first 27 sts, 3 sc in end st, sc in each remaining st, ch 1, turn.

Row 5: Sc in first 8 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts, sc in each st to last 10, ch 2, sk 2 sts, sc in last 8 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 6: Sc in each of first 28 sts, 3 sc in end st, sc in each remaining st, ch 1, turn.

Row 7: Sc in each st around, ch 1, turn.

Row 8: Sc in each of first 8 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts, sc in each of next 19 sts, 3 sc in end st, sc in each of next 19 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sc, sc in remaining sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 9: Sc in each st and ch around piece.

Work another piece to correspond. Hold 2 pieces together and with CC, work 1 row sc around mitten, working into 1 st of back and 1 of front with each sc.

Cuff: In CC, work two rows of knot st (k st) following these directions:

Row 1: Join thread in one st at cuff edge, draw lp on hook one-quarter inch long, ch 1, sc in left side of lp (2 threads remain on right side), draw another lp on hook one-quarter inch long, ch 1, sc in left side of lp, sk 3 sts on cuff of mitten, sc in next st. Repeat around cuff edge, join with sl st at base of first k st made.

Row 2: Draw one-quarter inch lp on hook, insert hook through the sc between this and second k st, pick up thread and draw through sc and lp on hook. Make 2 k sts, sc in sc of next k st on previous rnd, repeat around, join and fasten off.

Thread ribbon through eyelets. Embroider on front if desired.
