Knit a spring and summer top for a girl in a
different style of turret shaped stripe.
Back:
** With No. 12 needles and CC yarn, cast on 86 (94) sts and work 1 1/2 (2)
inches in k 1, p 1 ribbing, increasing 8 (8) sts evenly across on
last row: 94 (102 sts).
With right side facing, change to No. 10
needles and pattern as follows:
1st Row:
In MC, k 2, * slip 2 purlways, k 6; repeat from * to last 4 sts, slip 2
purlways, k 2.
2nd Row:
In MC, p 2, * slip 2 purlways, p 6; repeat from * to last 4 sts, slip 2
purlways, p 2.
3rd - 6th Rows:
Stocking stitch in MC starting with a knit row.
7th Row:
In CC, k 6, * slip 2 purlways, k 6; repeat from * to end.
8th Row:
In C, p 6, * slip 2 purlways, p 6; repeat from * to end.
9th - 12th Rows:
Stocking stitch in C starting with a knit row.
These 12 rows from pattern.
Continue in pattern until 54 (60) rows have
been completed from start of pattern.
**With right side facing,
shape raglan armholes as
follows:
Row 1: k 2 tog, pattern to last 2 sts, k 2
tog.
Row 2: p 2 tog, pattern to last 2 sts, p 2 tog.
Row 3: In pattern.
Row 4: p 2 tog, pattern to last 2 sts, p 2 tog.
Row 5: k 2 tog, pattern to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.
Row 6: In pattern.
Continue decreasing this way until 30 (30)
sts remain.
Cast off loosely.
Front:
Work as for back from ** to **.
Now continue shaping raglan armholes as for back until 46 (46) sts remain,
ending with wrong side facing.
Shape neck as follows:
Row 1: Pattern 16, turn and leave remaining
stitches on a spare needle.
Continue on first 16 sts, keeping continuity
of decreasings as before at each end of needle until all stitches are
gone.
With wrong side facing, slip centre 14 sts
on a spare needle, rejoin yarn to remaining 16 sts, pattern 16. Finish to
correspond with first side.
Sleeves:
With No. 12 needles and C yarn, cast on 70
(78) sts and work 6 (8) rows k 1, p 1 ribbing.
With right side facing, change to No. 10
needles and work 6 (12) rows straight in pattern. With right side facing,
continue in pattern, shaping raglan top exactly as for back until 6 (6)
sts remain. Cast off.
To Make Up:
Press lightly on wrong side under a damp
cloth. Join three of the four raglan seams, matching patterns carefully
and leaving open the seam on the left side of the front.
With right side facing, using No. 12 needles
and C yarn, pick up and k 16 sts down left side of neck, k 14 from centre,
pick up and k 16 sts up right side, 6 (6) from top of sleeve, 30 (32)
across back, 6 (6) from top of sleeve, 88 (90) sts. Work 5 (7) rows k 1, p
1 ribbing; cast off loosely in ribbing.
Join raglan seam leaving 2 ( 2 1/2) inches
open at neck edge. With C yarn and No. 12 crochet hook, work 2 rows dc
down each side of opening, making 2 (3) button loops (using ch stitch)
evenly spaced in 2nd row on right side. Join side and sleeve seams,
matching patterns. Press all seams. Sew on buttons. (or velcro)
